An opening proposal for public discussion

A strong economy should reward people who work, create, invest, take risks, and employ others. At the same time, a person working full time should have a realistic opportunity to support a household and build a better future.

The starting proposal is to preserve a competitive free-market economy while making it work for more people. Government should enforce laws against monopolies, price fixing, fraud, and unfair practices that prevent true competition. Small employers and lower-wage workers should receive targeted payroll-tax relief, while incentives should encourage companies to share profits or ownership with employees.

The minimum wage should rise gradually and reflect regional living costs rather than pretending that every community has the same economy. Assistance programs should be designed so that working more always improves a person’s financial position. Inflation should be addressed by expanding the supply of housing, energy, food, transportation, and skilled labor—not by relying on broad price controls that can create new shortages.

The goal is not to guarantee identical outcomes. It is to establish a reasonable opportunity floor: education, safety, healthcare, transportation, internet access, and a path to productive work. An economy succeeds when more people can become stable, skilled, and independent participants in it.
