An opening proposal for public discussion

The debate over wealth often begins with how money should be redistributed. A more productive starting point may be asking how more people can become owners in the first place.

The opening proposal is to expand employee stock ownership, profit-sharing, matched savings, responsible small-business lending, and first-time homeownership. Financial literacy and practical business education should be available before people make major decisions involving credit, debt, investments, or entrepreneurship.

Government should protect people from predatory lending, hidden fees, and financial products that are intentionally difficult to understand. Bankruptcy should offer an honest second chance after genuine failure while discouraging fraud and deliberate abuse. Housing policy should encourage more construction so that limited supply does not permanently price working families out of ownership.

Transparency is also essential. When public contracts, subsidies, zoning decisions, or tax incentives create enormous private gains, the public should be able to see who benefited, why the decision was made, and what value the community received in return.

The goal is not to punish success. It is to broaden access to the tools that create long-term stability: ownership, savings, skills, credit, and opportunity. A society becomes stronger when more people have something to build, protect, and pass forward.
